Summary

A second outbreak of Sudan ebolavirus occurred in the same Nzara cotton-factory community three years after the 1976 event. 34 cases and 22 deaths were recorded (CFR 65%). Transmission again involved a cotton-factory worker as index case and limited household and nosocomial spread.

Why this matters

Confirmed recurrence at the same site, strongly implicating an unidentified reservoir in or near cotton-factory bat colonies.
